Judge President, Judiciary and Correctional Services tour of JOC

The Western Cape High Court Judge President N.P. Mabindla-Boqwana this weekend headed a delegation from the Judiciary and Correctional Services on a tour of the Mossel Bay Joint Operation Centre (JOC), led by Portfolio Chairperson for Community Safety, Councillor Leon van Dyk.

The Mossel Bay JOC has proven itself as the nerve centre of decision-making during disaster management, most recently coordinating the response to the devastating fire that struck Mossel Bay at the start of January 2026.

By bringing together stakeholders – including regional and local fire & rescue services, SAPS, Provincial and Local Traffic & Law Enforcement, neighbourhood and farm watches, EMS Chaplaincy services, and other community safety partners – the JOC enabled rapid information sharing that shaped real-time strategies and ensured a coordinated and effective response.

Beyond disaster response, the JOC serves as a hub for collaboration between community safety roleplayers such as Correctional Services, and houses a radio unit, anti-poaching unit, and environmental greendesk – all vital components in building a safer, more resilient Mossel Bay.

We thank Judge President Mabindla-Boqwana and the delegation for engaging with our community safety structures, and reaffirm our commitment to protecting Mossel Bay and its people.
